Central Florida Navy Ball: Exceeding Expectations
Grab your black ties and get ready for a night of dancing, fun and patriotism as the Navy League of the United States, Central Florida Council celebrates the 234th birthday of the United States Navy with their annual ball this October. “This is both an educational and fun evening with an emphasis on fun,” says Retired U.S. Navy Captain and President of the Central Florida Chapter of the United States Navy League, Andy Mohler. “The business, military, academic and political communities all come out to enjoy the evening and network at the event.”
Making sure that everyone walks away with a smile and a few more good memories, Mohler insists the ball is anything but typical. “You’ll come home feeling proud of our Sea Services: past, present and future. You’ll also make some new friends, renew your patriotism and want to come back in 2010,” he jokes. Joking aside, Mohler says that attendees generally walk away with five new friends and 15 new business cards. “I am especially thrilled to have Dr. Dan Holsenbeck as our keynote speaker this year. A retired Captain, Dan had an exciting career in the Navy and continues to serve our Community as the Vice President of Community Relations for UCF,” says Mohler. “I’m sure Dan will provide a unique and entertaining perspective on the Navy’s birthday.”
The Sea Services have played a huge part in our nation’s history and the Navy League is proud to honor those servicemen and women including Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. “It’s very exciting to me personally to be part of such a long tradition, especially one that is more relevant than ever,” says Mohler. “As the world becomes more interdependent, the importance of control of the seas and power projection becomes even more important.”
You do not need to have been a member of the Navy previously to join the Navy League, attend the ball, or the monthly events. In fact, says Mohler, “We best fulfill our Mission when attendees don’t have prior Navy service, as they come away with an even greater understanding than if they had served.” The Navy League of the United States Central Florida Council is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian organization dedicated to the education of citizens and the support of the men and women of the sea services and their families living in, visiting or from Central Florida.
