A remarkable mix of honor students, debate champions, singers, dancers, cheerleaders, thespians, athletes, musicians and writers to compete for this coveted title and $300,000 in scholarship assistance
Fifty-three of the country’s most talented, bright and beautiful young women, ages 13 to 17, will converge in Orlando, FL to compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen (MAOTeen) competition, the “little sister” to Miss America. The competition will take place August 14-18, 2012, at the Linda Chapin Theater inside the Orange County Convention Center.
Promoting scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America’s teens, the MAOTeen contestants will be judged on personal interview, talent, evening wear, lifestyle & fitness in active wear, and on-stage question.
Miss America’s Outstanding Teen is a scholarship-based program offering accomplished teens the opportunity to be awarded funds for college. In the past seven years, the organization has made available more than $4 million in college scholarships.
In addition to the excitement of the teen competition, the MAOTeen organization has secured a very high profile panel of judges including one of the country’s most elite dancers and choreographers Cris Judd and Miss America 2001 Katie Harman. Rounding out the judges panel is the inventor and CEO of ShowStoppers, Shannon Mattingly, the president and CEO for the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Jane Chu, Vice President of Telebrands Raj Shahani, and television host from The Daily Buzz Kia Malone.
The contestants will be in Orlando from Saturday, August 11th through Saturday, August 18th for rehearsals and activities surrounding the pageant. They will visit Planet Hollywood on Sunday, August 12th and Medieval Times on Monday, August 13th. They will also participate in events such as the star-studded Evening of Stars Extravaganza, which will be held at the Rosen Centre Hotel, and will have several opportunities to train with professionals in the pageant and entertainment fields.
The MAOTeen Trade Show will also be open to the public from Tuesday, August 14th through Saturday, August 18th at the Rosen Centre Hotel on International Drive.
