Kid Fit Challenge 2008

By Sara Bridget Au

Insight Magazine is hosting Kid Fit Challenge 2008 on February 9th at the Lake Nona YMCA to encourage children and their families to exercise together, combat childhood obesity and hopefully to set the world’s record for the most number of children in an aerobics class.

Jennifer Thompson, Insight’s president and publisher, says the event will draw thousands, “Setting a good example for our children that exercise is a fun thing to do together is one step in reducing the soaring childhood obesity rates in our nation.”

“This is incredibly important for the health and well-being of our entire community.”

Kim Naugle, fitness instructor and mom of three young children, will lead the Largest Kids Aerobics Class with a kid-friendly workout routine. “I like to incorporate lots of musical elements into my children’s workouts, the things kids are really into today like Hannah Montana or the Cheetah Girls, because that’s what’s relevant to them. It doesn’t really matter how you get them interested, it’s the simple act of getting them up and getting moving that’s meaningful.”

The Kid Fit Challenge 2008 is open and free to the public. Insight will make a donation to the Central Florida YMCA Foundation (?) in support of children’s fitness education. The event is slated for 9am on February 9th, at the Lake Nona YMCA on Narcoossee Road. Photos and participant affidavits will be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records in an attempt to set the standard for the largest kids’ aerobics class in the world.
